Dan Syed is in-house employment counsel at AECOM, a Fortune 300 Engineering, Architecture, and Structural Design Company. Dan mitigates legal risk for the Company through advice and counsel, training, and managing outside counsel in litigation. Dan consistently works with employee relations, human resources, and the business to ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws.

Prior to AECOM, Dan was an associate in the Labor & Employment Practice Group in Sheppard Mullin and Jones Day's Dallas office. Drawing on his experience from two federal clerkships, Dan represented and advised clients in a variety of complex matters with a focus on employment and appellate litigation. His experience included employment discrimination, wage and hour, and trade secret lawsuits. He also defended clients against Title VII and state equivalent Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charges, as well as advised on and drafted employer handbooks and policies. Dan also authored numerous briefs on behalf of amicus curiae before the Fifth Circuit.

Dan maintained an active pro bono practice, including representing students with disabilities and several federal clemency petitioners through the Clemency Project. He drafted and filed numerous clemency applications, including one granted by President Obama. Dan also successfully briefed and argued an 8th Amendment case before the Fifth Circuit. During law school, Dan worked at the Institute for Public Representation, where he represented deaf children seeking closed captioning in public schools, and assisted a nonprofit advocacy group apply for a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) radio license.
